The Glass Jug is currently seeking a Head Bartender for our RTP taproom. This person will bartend full-time and manage our bartending team.

At The Glass Jug Beer Lab, our primary purpose is to Build Community. We do that by choosing to embody the following characteristics day-in and day-out:

Compassionate

Excited

Friendly

Team Players

Curious

We are passionate about fostering a diverse, healthy, joyful community within our own team and in our neighborhoods. If you’re looking for a work environment that is a little different from the norm, where these things are truly the focus of your day-to-day life, we want to meet you! In our RTP location, at least some base knowledge of craft beer is required. We are happy to help you expand upon your knowledge and teach new skills to the right people who are excited about our mission and values. If you are excited about this opportunity and think you might be a good cultural fit, but have little to no knowledge of craft beer, check out opportunities at our Downtown Durham taproom.

MANAGING RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ultimately, we want to find someone who loves, and is great at, working with and leading a team mindfully, in such a way as to foster the type of culture and community we are trying to build. Our current RTP team is pretty spectacular. We have a whole staff of talented, smart, hard-working people who are invested in the success of our taproom. We are looking for someone who can pump them up, support them, listen to them, and generally be sure they are set up for success.

Some of the responsibilities tied to achieving that are:

Hiring, training, scheduling, managing, educating, and terminating (when rarely and unfortunately needed)

Serve as the on-site expert in all things related to running the taproom, like our products, all of our processes and systems, the draft setup, etc. Don’t worry, we’ll teach you this stuff.

Be the on-site escalation point when issues arise.

Serve as an active member of the Management Team at The Glass Jug, attending meetings and helping the rest of the management team make decisions and implement programs, events, etc.

BARTENDING RESPONSIBILITIES:

Make everyone feel welcome and comfortable while at The Glass Jug

Serve draft beer (quickly and efficiently)

Help guests make beer and wine purchasing choices for on- and off-premise consumption

Change kegs, clean draft lines, and update menus

Help ensure a safe environment for all guests and staff

Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Positive outlook on life and ability to build a good vibe, even in stressful situations

Flexible schedule (evenings, weekends, and some holidays required)

Ability to lift 60 pounds unassisted and stand for extended periods of time

Ability to move 160-pound kegs with the assistance of a teammate/hand truck

Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team

Excellent communication skills

Pass background check (Please let us know if you anticipate things popping up that you’d like to give us context to better understand. We’re reasonable people who believe in second chances.)

Valid driver's license or other means of reliable transportation to work

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL IN THIS ROLE:

Experience managing a team. If you don’t have experience managing a team, but you do have experience as a mentor (say, for a family member or co-worker), and you think that experience would help you in this role, please tell us about it.

Experience bartending and/or waiting tables (preferably in a fast-paced environment). If you don’t have this specific experience, please let us know what comparable fast-paced work you have done, formally in the workplace or otherwise.

Knowledge of craft beer, the NC craft beer industry, Cicerone Certified Beer Server certification

Homebrewing or knowledge of the beer making process

SCHEDULE:

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:

We believe one piece of building community is creating happiness. We want every person who walks through our doors to walk out a little bit happier than they came in. Of course, that includes our guests… but it also includes our staff. We are very proud of our compensation packages, meticulously designed to improve quality of life for everyone on our team.
